Established in 1912, Idle Hour is one of Georgia’s oldest club. The club used to be a stock farm and horse racetrack owned by Macon banker R.H. Plant. The club got its name from Plant because he used to spend his “idle hours” at the farm with his family and racehorses. No longer a farm, the par 72 and 6,006-yard golf course is challenging and stills has remnants of the club’s past. A few of the course’s holes allow you to see where the racetrack used to stand. Idle Hour has been the host of eight Georgia Amateur Championship and is the home course for the Mercer Bears Golf Team. Golf for four with carts. Contact club to schedule tee time.

A note from GSGA Foundation: The GSGA Foundation Auction raises funds to support its Yates and Moncrief Scholarship Programs. For over 30 years, the Yates Scholarship Program has provided college grants to employees, and their dependents, at GSGA member clubs across the state. The Moncrief Scholarship Program honors deserving students in the field of agronomy and turf management at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, the University of Georgia, and students who work and live in Georgia but attend an accredited program outside of the state. For more information on the GSGA Foundation, visit https://www.gsga.org/foundation. We appreciate the support of all those who have generously donated rounds of golf for this auction. Thanks for your interest in our auction and its support of the GSGA Foundation!
